The Panthers Athlete of the Week award goes to a freshman who did something that hadn't been done in 11 years and who helped the volleyball team do something it had never done before.
On Saturday, Jade VanWagenen (McGraw/McGraw H.S.) had a huge day as the Panthers went a perfect 3-0 in Region III play for the first time ever. Jade had 37 kills on the day, including 18 in the win over Hudson Valley, which marks the most by a Tompkins Cortland player in a single match since 2011. Combined with her team-best 10 kills in Wednesday's match, Jade now has 108 on the season with a .280 hitting percentage that is among the top ten in the region.
