The Panthers wrapped up the Spring Break trip to Florida with a wild game that featured a rain delay and 36 combined runs scored. By the time the marathon of a game ended, the Panthers were on the wrong end of a 22-14 final against Bunker Hill Community College (Mass.). The Panthers ended the trip with a record of 0-5 in Florida and are now 1-9 overall this year.
Game One: Bunker Hill 22, Tompkins Cortland 14
Things looked great early for the Panthers, with TC3 leading 6-1 after two innings. That's when things started to go bad. Bunker Hill scored 11 runs in the third and 5 more in the fourth to lead 17-6. The Panthers plated three in the bottom of the fourth, but Bunker Hill kept at it with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth. TC3 scored three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to end the scoring.
The Panthers offense kept pressure on the entire game with 11 hits plus 12 walks and getting hit by a pitch six times, but the team left 17 runners on base over seven innings. That combined with seven errors in the field and 14 free passes issued by TC3 pitchers proved to be too much for the Panthers to overcome.
Six Panthers recorded hits, led by Easton Podbeusek going 4-for-5 with a double, triple, and two RBI. Keelan Marren and Evan Shank each went 2-for-3 with Marren driving in three runs and scoring three times and Shank lacing a double.
Game Two: Tompkins Cortland vs. University of Connecticut at Avery Point
Cancelled due to weather.
