Eight different players scored as the Panthers lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season, 20-5 over Mohawk Valley Community College on Wednesday. TC3 is now 1-6 this year, while Mohawk Valley drops to 0-3.
The scoring started early, with August Du Pont Windsor winning the opening faceoff and Thomas Kirnie scoring the first goal just seven seconds into the game. The Hawks answered with a score to tie it at 1-1, and after Jimmy Craft scored midway through the quarter, the home team again tied the game, this time at 2-2. Mark Darling put the Panthers back ahead, this time for good, with a goal with 28 seconds left in the quarter. The 3-2 lead after one period grew to 9-2 at halftime and 15-4 after the third quarter. The final of 20-5 marked both the most goals scored and the fewest goals allowed by the Panthers this season.
Craft and Kirnie both had career days. Craft finished with 11 points on 6 goals and 5 assists and Kirnie was one point behind with 10 on 5 goals and 5 assists. Joey Vrendenburgh had 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists, and Aidan Greeney was next with 3 points on 2 goals and an assist. Darling had 2 goals and Quentin Stillman had his first career goal. Caleb Aleba and Jonathan Gutierrez each had an assist.
Cameron Cherry had his quietest day in goal this season, recording just three saves while picking up the win.
