A spirited effort wasn't enough to prevent the Panthers men's soccer team from dropping their first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling to Jefferson Community College 2-0. The result leaves the Panthers with a record of 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in Mid-State Athletic Conference. Jefferson is now 3-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the MSAC.
Jefferson put the first goal on the board early, scoring in the 13th minute of action. The margin doubled early in the second half, with another Jefferson score in the 51st minute of play. A late rush by the Panthers brought the best chances for the home team, but nothing found the net. It marked the first time the Panthers have been held scoreless this season.
Cillian Lynch (Dublin, Ireland/St. Vincent's School) had four saves in goal. Stanley Wiggins (Wallyford, Scotland/Musselburgh H.S.) had a team-best six shots.
Looking ahead
The Panthers travel to Batavia on Saturday to take on Genesee Community College.
